A high-profile controller position has opened within a growing real estate organization in Houston. Both its suite of services and its portfolio are diverse, with national holdings across commercial, industrial, retail, office and healthcare property. Likewise, the controller’s range of duties will offer the chance for the right professional to gain additional knowledge of property investment, leasing and deal making.

This is a closely held firm that places a high value on integrity and sound investing for the long term. To that end, the controller will take responsibility for all corporate accounting policies and financial reporting. He or she will coordinate with accountants to ensure timely tax filings, as well as accurate accounting of escrows, capital expenditures, depreciation and related items. Top-level oversight also will encompass insurance contracts, debt compliance and the year-end audit process. During new acquisitions, the controller will contribute his or her expertise to the acquisition team and investment partners, producing documentation during due diligence and contributing to the financing process. At the same time, he or she will continuously evaluate accounting rules for potential improvements.

The scope of this role calls for a minimum of three years of related experience. All candidates should demonstrate knowledge of GAAP, commercial real estate and third-party management. A CPA is helpful but not required. This organization values employees who are eager to learn and take on challenges beyond their current responsibilities. Doing so will require excellent attention to detail and organization. The successful candidate also will possess exceptional communication skills, with an ability to build relationships with external investors.
