A growing, veteran-founded regional homebuilder plans to hire an ambitious division manager in Des Moines, Iowa, where property values are rising consistently and home sales jumped by more than a quarter in August over the previous year.
Last year this region of nearly 600,000 was ranked by Forbes magazine as the best city in the nation for young professionals, with its 5.5 percent unemployment rate, affordable cost of living and wealth of corporate headquarters in the financial services and publishing industries. Two private universities, an extensive waterfront trail system and a range of cultural venues also contribute to the city’s high quality of life. To help harness this region’s economic success, this builder is searching for an aspiring housing professional looking to take the jump to new levels of leadership and responsibility.
The division manager will take charge of all activities in the Des Moines area, where the builder markets homes primarily at the entry and move-up levels, from $150,000 to $425,000. This entails administrative duties like permitting, budget oversight, closings, market analysis, employee training, executive-level quality control and project supervision. The position’s wide range of duties calls for a broad set of skills and a dynamic personality adept at problem solving. Long-term success will require productive partnership and efficiency efforts with subcontractors and other parts of the supply chain. The division manager should strive for constant improvement through relationship building, negotiation and employee training.
Candidates should bring 10 to 15 years of experience, including field experience in housing construction. The new hire will be organized and will come to the job with a passion for homebuilding. The ideal person for this job would be an individual currently in a management role in home construction who’s ready and inspired to take the jump to the division level.
