Purchasing Leadership Needed for National Homebuilder in Dallas

One of the country’s most prominent homebuilders is searching for a division director of purchasing to join its leadership in Dallas. This opening represents an opportunity to work in a high-profile position in close proximity to the top executives of this company’s Texas operations. Further, it offers a chance to work for a builder with a decades-long track record of growth and profitability with a solid reputation for customer service and the treatment of its trade partners.

The division will be among this company’s top five for capital allocation over the next two years, and the new division director of purchasing will have a hand in closing 900 units this year with a staff of about 10 direct reports. Responsibilities will encompass plan and trade-base management for a high-volume division, including contract negotiations, production capability assessments and quality control. Other duties will include house cost management, department budget planning, employee development, trade partner selection and management of standard features and options. This person will work closely with sales and construction staff to ensure effective implementation in the field. At the same time, he or she will be responsible for the feasibility process of new communities with the finance team and will help develop and implement purchasing strategies in collaboration with the leadership of the wider Texas region. The purchasing director will also help maximize ROIC from existing assets.

In addition to extensive purchasing experience, this company needs someone with the self-confidence, charisma and leadership qualities to thrive in an environment that is as demanding as it is rewarding. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are paramount. All candidates should bring a relevant bachelor’s degree, along with seven to 10 years of purchasing experience. That should include three to five years in management, with a history of mentoring. The division director of purchasing will also have advanced knowledge of contracts, negotiation, budgeting, lean manufacturing, value-stream analysis and quantitative assessment. ISCM accreditation is preferred.
