Director of Purchasing
A new director of purchasing will join the leadership of the San Antonio division – expected to be in the company’s top 10 for growth in revenue, gross profit, closings and average sales price per unit. This person will have a hand in executing aggressive growth plans for 1,300-plus units over the next few years with a staff of about 10 direct reports. Responsibilities will encompass plan and trade-base management for a high-volume division, including contract negotiations, production capability assessments and quality control. Other duties will include house cost management, department budget planning, employee development, trade partner selection and management of standard features and options. He or she will also be responsible for the feasibility process of new communities with the finance team and will help develop and implement purchasing strategies in collaboration with the leadership of the wider Texas region.
Purchasing Agents
In New Mexico, California and Florida, this builder will hire purchasing agents who will also shape supplier negotiations and contract management at the division level. Additionally they will handle supplier performance monitoring, trade partner conflict resolution and other responsibilities related to the cost and quality of acquired goods and services. Their work will take place in collaboration with the design, field-operations, scheduling and process-improvement teams. The new purchasing agents will also help assure compliance with company and legal standards.
These positions require a bachelor’s degree, with an ISCM accreditation preferred. The company is looking for people with construction knowledge, as well as purchasing and supply chain expertise. For the San Antonio director of purchasing position, the company will be looking for professionals with seven to 10 years of purchasing experience, along with three to five years in management. All candidates should demonstrate an ability to negotiate in a cost-transparent environment while cultivating vendor partnerships. They should also possess analytical mindsets, self-motivation and the ability to communicate well with people at all levels of the organization.
