National Homebuilder Hiring Vice President of Acquisition in Charlotte

A leading builder with four decades in the business and communities in more than a dozen states needs an experienced executive to oversee its land acquisition in Charlotte, N.C. This position will offer the right person a leadership role in a market experiencing significant sales growth. Charlotte home prices appreciated 7.6 percent, year over year, after a strong summer. The new acquisition executive will capitalize on this growth while working with an ambitious company that shares an optimism for today’s housing recovery.

This executive’s analytical talent and deal-making prowess will underlie the development process from start to finish. His or her duties will begin with research and analysis of potential lot acquisitions and new markets, in-line with the company’s long-term acquisition plan. He or she will then oversee due diligence for targeted properties, ensure contract terms are met and manage all aspects of local zoning and land-use planning. With the land purchased, the vice president will then coordinate development activities – including budget preparation and negotiation of labor and materials costs – up to the acceptance of the new lots by local government. Reporting to the division president, the acquisition VP manages these processes as the leader of the land department. As such, he or she will be responsible for hiring and managing all of the department’s personnel.

This position demands a deep background in acquisition, development and management. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree and seven to 10 years of relevant experience, with five years in management. Land acquisition experience in North Carolina is preferred. Candidates should demonstrate their ability to negotiate, to execute legal contracts and to motivate a team. The job requires strong analytical and inter-departmental communication skills. JD Edwards experience is a plus.
