A leading builder that puts an emphasis on the future leadership potential of its employees needs a seasoned purchasing executive to join its San Antonio division. Not only does this position present the potential for advancement within a national homebuilder, it also offers the chance to work in one of the most robust markets in Texas. The division is expected to be in the company’s top 10 for growth in revenue, gross profit, closings and average sales price per unit. Investment indicators place this market among the best in the country for its current homebuilding environment, with sustained job growth expected from the flourishing defense, energy and biotech sectors. What’s more, the historic River Walk district, Sea World, the Alamo and Texas Hill Country make San Antonio the top destination in the state.
The division’s new director of purchasing will have a hand in executing aggressive growth plans for 1,300-plus units over the next few years with a staff of about 10 direct reports. Responsibilities will encompass plan and trade-base management for a high-volume division, including contract negotiations, production capability assessments and quality control. Other duties will include house cost management, department budget planning, employee development, trade partner selection and management of standard features and options. He or she will also be responsible for the feasibility process of new communities with the finance team and will help develop and implement purchasing strategies in collaboration with the leadership of the wider Texas region.
The company will be looking for professionals with seven to 10 years of purchasing experience, along with three to five years in management. A bachelor’s degree is required, with an ISCM accreditation preferred. All candidates should demonstrate their supply chain expertise and an ability to negotiate in a cost-transparent environment while cultivating vendor partnerships. They should also possess analytical mindsets, self-motivation and the ability to communicate well with people at all levels of the organization.
