National Builder Hiring Purchasing Manager for Fast-Growing Chicago Division

An award-winning homebuilder that offers a diverse range of products in more than 16 states is seeking out the right purchasing pro to join its team in Chicago. Roughly 300 homes are expected to close in the company’s communities there this year, with the capital in place to implement aggressive plans for continued growth. In addition to the challenges offered by this expansion, the new purchasing manager will also enjoy comprehensive benefits, retirement contributions and professional development opportunities. Reporting to the vice president of purchasing, the newest member of this team will handle a wide range of bidding negotiation and administration of trade agreements as he or she maintains critical relationships with vendors. This will include preparation of conceptual estimates prior to bidding, oversight of the bid process and negotiation of the resulting contracts. Afterward, he or she will be responsible for contract documentation, payment schedules and the monitoring of field performance and compliance. The purchasing manager will also price options appropriately and prepare their descriptions. This professional will negotiate hard costs before model home construction, while also staying up-to-date on new products and networking with suppliers.

This builder needs someone who’s ambitious and eager to climb the learning curve necessitated by a diverse portfolio of homes that range in price from $250,000 to $1 million-plus. Relevant experience with purchasing, estimating and residential construction is required, with a bachelor’s degree preferred. Knowledge of value engineering and construction-relevant software is also valuable. While the ability to negotiate and communicate clearly with multiple stakeholders in a fast-changing environment is essential.
