With its current purchasing manager promoted to a more senior role, one of Michigan’s most recognizable builders is hiring a new executive to lead this critical department. Based in Oakland County, he or she will head purchasing and estimating companywide while supervising related staff. Reporting to the GM, the new purchasing manager will write budgets, supervise home pricing and oversee profit forecasts. His or her leadership also will contribute to effective negotiation with subcontractors while ensuring adequate resources to meet timelines and quality standards. This manager will closely follow trends in home design, green building, construction techniques and competitors’ products. This will inform development of project specifications in collaboration with the marketing team.

The position requires someone experienced with managing employees and supplier relationships in a positive manner. The successful candidate will show a talent for negotiation, communication and problem solving while serving as a key liaison between suppliers and the production department. In addition to thorough knowledge of residential construction, the position requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years in residential purchasing management. Alternately, the company will consider candidates with three-plus years of staff management experience alongside three-plus years in the field. Knowledge of Newstar or similar purchasing software is preferred.
