Florida Homebuilder Opens VP of Finance/Controller Opportunity

Have you helped shape the financial direction of an organization in residential construction and want to take your leadership to the next level? If so, a builder with deep roots in South Florida is looking for a new controller to join the ranks of its senior leadership. During nearly two decades in business, this company has long set itself apart among buyers for its innovative approach to livable, environmentally sustainable homebuilding. Behind the scenes, the company also prides itself on a family-friendly work culture and exceptionally low turnover among staff. For the new controller/VP, the benefits of joining this organization also will include the chance to make substantive contributions to the company’s direction going forward.

Reporting directly to this builder’s owners, he or she will play a role in projects with diverse business challenges and architecture, including urban infill development, redevelopment and traditional single-family neighborhoods. Contributions will vary widely, from lender negotiations to staff development to advising the board. While overseeing a senior accountant, he or she will take ultimate responsibility for compliance and back-office functions. At the same time, this professional will supervise annual business planning, seeking out process improvements and opportunities for operational cost savings. Critical contributions to new projects will include analysis of potential deal structures, production goals and pricing, as well as negotiation with financing partners. The new VP will also advise the company on profit forecasts and strategic plans across functional areas like marketing and operations. Other duties include oversight of the closing process and providing support for external accountants preparing division financial statements.

The ideal candidate will have leveraged a background in accounting into a controller position or a similar role at a public or private home builder. Deep knowledge of residential real estate finance and analysis is a must. Just as important, the successful candidate will possess the communication and negotiation skills required to obtain financing and work with individuals throughout the organization. This company is looking for at least five years of relevant experience at the director, controller, CFO or VP level. A bachelor’s degree is required, while a CPA and experience in South Florida markets are strongly preferred. The fast-changing nature of the work also requires a leader who is organized, deadline-minded and able to prioritize across multiple projects.
