A long-established builder noted for its high-quality homes and ongoing growth in Atlanta, Ga., is searching for a leadership-minded accounting professional to serve as its next controller. This is a position with real influence in company operations, and the successful candidate will contribute his or her expertise to a broad cross section of this company’s business while reporting directly to the president and COO. In the operations realm, the controller will be directly involved in functions that include sales contract execution, starts planning and coordinating loan and draw requests with banks. The controller will perform detailed cash-flow projections and frequent analyses of job estimates, budgets and gross margins. Additionally, he or she will coordinate with management to develop yearly budgets for the company itself. While supervising all accounting personnel, the controller’s oversight role will encompass the general ledger, monthly closings, account reconciliations, variances, disbursements, monthly journal entries, debt covenants and internal controls.
This is a role that requires demonstrated data analysis skills and a solid foundation in accounting. Candidates should bring six to 10 years of experience, with a background in the homebuilding industry strongly desired. Preference will be given to those with CPA or CMA designations, and a bachelor’s degree is required. The controller must be proficient with widely used accounting software and possess advanced Excel skills. Further, the successful candidate will show an aptitude for conflict resolution, time management and persuasive communication.
