An opportunity for substantial division-level financial leadership has emerged in Texas at a leading homebuilder. The new Houston-based VP and controller will have the chance to contribute to decision making among the office’s top leadership while reporting directly to the division president. At the same time, this position will offer the professional challenges of in-depth analysis and a broad range of management responsibility for the division’s financial functions.
He or she will serve as a crucial adviser to the senior executive team, while also contributing leadership in due diligence and pro-forma analysis during the feasibility process for land acquisition. Day-to-day management will encompass oversight of all relevant operational and business processes to ensure effective results and regulatory compliance. This will include oversight of monthly account reconciliations, management of the monthly close and financial reporting. Accounting responsibilities will also involve preparation of the annual financial plan and operating-unit budgets. Operational analyses will include reviews of job cost data, project budget reports and financial forecasting.
The position calls for someone who’s held a previous title as a controller or vice president of finance at the division level. A CPA is required, along with at least five years in accounting. The successful candidate ideally will possess experience at a Big 4 firm, although the company will also consider candidates who’ve worked for the top six public firms or prominent regional firms. Experience in homebuilding, residential construction or development is essential. JD Edwards proficiency is preferred. And the company is looking for someone with a gift for analysis, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines.
