A project manager position has opened in Florida that promises to be as attractive as the development this person will oversee: a 175-room hotel within a new mixed-use tower in St. Petersburg’s urban core. A diversified company with an estimated $12 billion in properties across the Southeast plans to begin construction on this venture next year. It needs an experienced executive to take ownership of the project and see it to its full potential as a marquee hotel nestled within one of the most livable downtowns in Florida.

This position will involve owner interaction, the entitlement process and oversight of construction from the ground up. During the design phase, the development project manager will coordinate the work of architects, engineers and consultants. He or she will also assist with pre-construction scoping, bidding and permitting. Once work is underway, the PM’s responsibilities will encompass construction coordination, quality control, RFIs, change orders, punch lists and final turn-over to hotel management.

The size and value of this building and subsequent projects require a manager who can perform in an intense yet collaborative environment. The successful candidate will be someone who values both accountability and the challenge of solving problems. Communication will be essential, whether with future owners or trade professionals. At the same time, the position calls for four to six years in related positions, as well as hotel or high-rise multifamily construction experience. Local market knowledge and prior management of hotel construction are preferred.
