Iowa’s Leading Construction Firm Hiring Project Manager

An experienced construction project manager will soon have the chance to oversee diverse projects on behalf of an award-winning builder and developer that can trace its growth back more than 150 years. In that time, this organization has found a balance between long-term thinking and a culture that encourages new ideas and a sense of ownership among its employees. In addition to autonomy in their work, they also enjoy competitive pay and benefits that include a dollar-for-dollar match on retirement contributions. Alongside the career potential offered by this award-winning company, the position also presents a chance to build in an award-winning community. Des Moines recently rose to the top of Forbes’ list of the best cities for young professionals and offers job candidates of all ages a thriving cultural scene, collegiate sports, an extensive waterfront trail system and other perks that add up to a high quality of life.

The newest project manager will meet the challenge of overseeing new projects and their teams in their entirety. At the front end, this will include participation in final project budget development, permitting, due diligence of design and construction schedules, coordination of plans and specifications, as well as review of contracts and purchase orders. He or she will assume primary responsibility for quality control while also managing the bid process and implementing cost controls. Also, this role is responsible for facilitating public utility installation, resolving budget variances and supervising the project coordinator and project superintendents.

To ensure projects meet the company’s high standards from design through close-out, this professional will bring a substantial background in construction management. This should include a relevant bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in the industry. At least three years should include positions as a project manager, with experience working for a general contractor on projects $5 million or larger preferred. The successful candidate will show a track record of previous leadership, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills in interacting with a wide range of project stakeholders. The company will also be looking for someone who can set long-term priorities while keeping multiple projects on time and on budget.
