Growing Builder Needs Market Manager for Its Richmond Division

A successful regional homebuilder has modified its search for division sales leadership in Richmond, Va., placing more emphasis on operational duties with an eye to greater responsibilities in the future. This privately held company has enjoyed three decades of growth, including five recently launched communities in Richmond and more in the pipeline. Reporting to the corporate office, the market manager’s responsibilities will not be limited to oversight of the division’s sales and marketing team. Rather, this person will take a meaningful role in guiding many critical areas of this division’s expansion, from land acquisition to product development.

The company is looking for someone entrepreneurial and ambitious, who can help run the division independently. This professional will develop a yearly business plan that encompasses land positioning, product development, market trends, warranty programs and workforce capabilities. He or she will take responsibility for hiring the sales team and developing its managers. The market manager will also develop cost control measures and improve workflow processes. These will help the division achieve the budgeted sales, margins and business objectives that this leader will be accountable for meeting. This person’s work will also help grow the division and may lead to broader leadership responsibilities down the line.

The position calls for a minimum of 10 years of high-volume homebuilding experience, with at least five years in leadership. Managerial experience in sales and marketing is a must and should include recruitment and performance management. Past positions should also demonstrate familiarity with the entire homebuilding process, from land acquisition through warranty administration. Other traits this manager will possess include critical thinking skills, resolve under deadline pressure and the ability to communicate easily with customers, agents, vendors and other stakeholders.
