A builder lauded as one of the country’s most supportive workplaces is hiring a conceptual designer to join its architectural team in Houston. This position will offer a range of creative challenges while meeting the needs of a closely held company that offers ample professional development, competitive pay, profit sharing and a generous benefits package.
This person will have the chance to generate home concepts in a variety of styles tailored to new neighborhoods across the country. As a production home builder, the company will be looking to the conceptual designer to create state-of-the-art products that balance thoughtful design with targeted price per square foot and other parameters. Additional challenges will include associated project management, program analysis and careful study of the competition. Problem solving, teamwork, flexibility and time management will also be essential to the position.
This organization will be looking for someone with a bachelor’s degree in architecture or a closely related field, alongside four-plus years of experience working with residential plans and construction. At least three years should include the design of original elevations and floor plans. Hand drafting experience or professional experience with SketchUp are highly preferred, with AutoCAD experience a plus. General residential construction knowledge should include familiarity with construction drawings, and prior work for a production builder is preferred. The ideal candidate will also be a licensed architect or someone who has completed the IDP program and is preparing for the licensing exam.
