The right construction pro will soon have the chance to work on head-turning commercial and industrial projects within an organization known for its training, professional development and promotion from within. The role of assistant project manager will offer the right person the chance to hone his or her leadership abilities while building hands-on expertise in the field.
This professional will quickly get up to speed on the full scope of this national contractor’s work, including estimating, scheduling, purchasing, cost accounting and labor relations. He or she also will have the chance to work closely with premiere architects and consultants, as well as owners, inspectors and subcontractors. Reporting to the project manager, this professional will oversee the estimating and bidding process, creating contracts and documenting their specifications and costs. The new assistant PM also will help implement project schedules and track milestones. Additionally, he or she will provide field support to superintendents to help ensure contract compliance, quality and safety.
Candidates should bring at least two years of relevant experience, ideally including work on large construction and renovation projects in the commercial or industrial sectors. This organization will be looking for someone who demonstrates the aptitude needed to manage subcontractors, project documentation and inspections. An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in construction management or engineering is required, as is knowledge of engineering principles and basic business processes relevant to monitoring expenses. Also required is field construction experience involving building systems and materials. Interaction with craft workers and a range of other stakeholders calls for solid communication skills, as well. Computer literacy is required, with knowledge of bidding, construction and project management software a plus.
