A commercial property firm characterized by its private ownership and one of the country’s most successful portfolios will soon offer a new construction executive the chance to lead high-value retail projects in southwest Florida. This project manager will serve as a critical point of contact for contractors, tenants and company leaders. At the same time, he or she will benefit from the career development offered by a company that owns or manages more than 700 diverse properties in nearly 40 states.
Reporting to the director of construction, the new PM will supervise multiple retail construction projects. At project initiation, he or she will monitor preparation of contract documents, design criteria and plan specifications with an eye toward cost effectiveness. He or she will solicit and review bids, negotiate with contractors and obtain competitive unit prices. The PM will set and enforce realistic construction schedules with feedback from the superintendent. Coordination of design review, drawing approvals, code compliance and efforts to ensure jobsite safety also will fall within this professional’s responsibilities. He or she will hold meetings with clients, resolving construction-related issues and coordinating tenant openings with property management. The project manager also will supervise up to 150 people at each site, overseeing concurrent projects as needed.
The position requires an associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management alongside five-plus years in commercial construction management. This firm will be looking for experience with retail centers and their design. Candidates’ past roles should include successful management of contractors and subcontractors that demonstrates standout communication skills and negotiation. The project manager’s knowledge also will encompass construction costs, takeoffs, bid analysis and proficiency with construction scheduling software.
