A closely held and long-successful builder operating in several Midwestern states is searching for a new senior vice president of purchasing and estimating. With a sense of entrepreneurship and integrity, the new SVP will oversee all purchasing and estimating activities for the company. This will include the creation of initiatives to reduce base house costs across divisions, including broad procurement strategy and purchasing policies. Reporting to the president, he or she will also manage vendor relationships, negotiating with trade partners on national accounts and developing new supply sources. Policy-setting will be informed by competitive market assessments and ongoing analysis of commodity prices. People-management duties will include the mentorship and training of division managers. Working closely with the rest of the executive team, the SVP’s duties will also touch on compliance, RFP management, product development, budget supervision, supply-chain strategy and development of an energy efficiency program.
At least ten years of experience in purchasing, estimating and construction are required for the position. Candidates should also be proficient in IHMS, Access and CAD functions for value engineering. The new SVP will be effective at communicating with the executive team and division leadership. He or she will know how to audit purchasing and estimating departments. Other traits critical to the role include negotiation skills and the ability to manage changing priorities in high-production, low-cost homebuilding.
