It may be fall, but Texas is still hot. San Antonio’s housing starts are expected to increase by double digits this year, and overall growth in the region’s economy shows few signs of slowing. In August, the city’s 5.8 percent unemployment rate hit a nearly five-year low, driving population growth and demand for new homes. One of the nation’s leading builders is capitalizing on this healthy market and needs a division director to help acquire land for new developments.
This position reports directly to the division president. Advice to senior leadership will be informed by the day-to-day management of land acquisition efforts. The successful candidate will locate target properties and guide them through the contract, due diligence and entitlement process. While negotiating purchases and liaising with relevant development contractors, local governments and other departments, the division director will also have full supervisory responsibility for as many as 10 employees.
These responsibilities call for seven to 10 years of related experience, as well as a relevant bachelor’s degree. Candidates should show their mastery of finance and development-related legal processes; and their resumes should demonstrate strong negotiation and contract skills. Meeting the company’s strategic objectives for land acquisition will also require a thorough understanding of market trends, pricing and supply, as well as the ability to create local political connections.
